Bruges, Belgium

 Exciting day today! We took the train to Bruges this morning to meet our long-time friends, Jean Marc and Christiane Dufour. The train ride took about 15 minutes and was quiet and comfortable. I wish we had trains like this in the US! After meeting our friends, we took a canal ride through beautiful Bruges. It was fantastic-but cold! Temperature was about 45 degrees and it was overcast-not so pleasant for this Florida girl!

Pop Up Market, Takoradi, Ghana

 The Takoradi Market Circle, which was huge in downtown Takoradi, has been closed by the government because of safety concerns. In response, many of the vendors set up a pop up market on the pier. Unlike other locations, the sellers here were extremely polite, grateful for sales, and never bothered people to make a sale. When I purchased a necklace, the man who sold it blessed me for buying from him!

John’s Birthday

 John’s 72nd birthday was celebrated yesterday at sea on the way to the Canary Islands. We had a lovely breakfast in the dining room, where the waiters sang Happy Birthday in Indonesian! Upon returning to our stateroom, we were surprised by a visit from room service with a birthday cupcake and note from the Captain. In the evening we ate at the Pinnacle Grill with friends and John had a special birthday cake. While we were eating , our room stewards decorated the cabin for another birthday surprise!
